Everything had started so well for Steve and an Albführen’s Iashin Sitte in top form that such an unfortunate ending seemed unimaginable.
After a brilliantly executed opening speed round, the pair stood in second place, and following a fifth-place finish in the Grand Prix on day two, they moved into third overall – the highest hopes were justified.
In Sunday’s final, a light touch in the first round did not significantly affect Steve’s ranking. However, in the decisive final round, Albführen’s Iashin Sitte lost momentum, making two mistakes on individual fences and ultimately dropping to sixth place overall.
Disappointment? It will quickly fade, as who could have imagined such an outcome to the winter season after the health issues Steve faced throughout 2025? For many, a sixth-place finish in a World Cup Final is far from a failure – but our man is a true competitor who aims to win.
As for Albführen’s Iashin, he can be forgiven for his dip in form in the final after a fantastic winter, highlighted in particular by major victories in Geneva, Leipzig, and Helsinki.
Sometimes, taking a step back is the best way to come back stronger – never has that rung more true!
