The Swiss jumping team has great ambitions for European Championships in Windsor (August 25-30). Showing excellence at Coupe des Nations with their 4th overall place (victory in La Baule, once second and three times third) the Swiss team is a strong medal contender, both at team and individual levels.

Steve Guerdat (Jalisca Solier), Pius Schwizer (Ulysse), Daniel Etter (Peu à Peu) and Clarissa Crotta (Westside) with Beat Mändli (Louis) as a backup are going to have the teams of France (Coupe des Nations laureate), the USA, Germany and the Netherlands as primary opponents. Despite the disasterous season the Great Britain is proud to participate in homeland competition while it is not in the Royal Manege because of the Whitakers' absence for the first time in decades.

Classified as the World's 8th, Steve Guerdat is placed as the primary Swiss participant. He is in a great state with the recent winnings of Grand Prix Rotterdam and Ascona, the latter won three weeks ago with his French horse which has not participated since then. "I am prepared and so is my horse and team", he confirms, "As always we are targetting to win. My objective is gaining two medals".

Clarissa Crotta is expected to show her best in this competition while Mändli is behind with less powerful horses and Christina Liebherr having had put No Mercy into retirement after the accident in Aachen. Crotta is experiencing the best season in her career now at 31, notably because of her 5th place in CSI Zurich, two fault-free rounds in Prix des Nations of CSIO Roma and 2nd place in the five-star competition of Estoril.
