The situation was already difficult on this Sunday before the start of individual finals at the European Championships in Gothenburg, followed by 16,000 spectators (including the King and Queen of Sweden). Steve and Bianca got to the start with already a handicap of more than two faults behind the leader before the first round, for which the best 25 horse-rider pairs had qualified after the first three qualifying classes.
Despite a very good jumping Bianca during the whole course a pole fell at the second obstacle, what threw the pair out of the top 12, who qualified to compete in the second round. Steve at the end finished 15th.
This is a disappointing ending of this European Championships weekend for the Swiss riders, but it is important to note that "the team has achieved its goal of winning a team medal."
