The Swiss jumping team took the second place in the Nations Cup at CSIO St. Gallen, same place as last year. The hosts however lost the lead to the British team in the jump-off, and they are followed by Belgium and Ireland who took third and fourth places respectively.
For the jump-off, Switzerland was represented by Steve Guerdat riding Nasa who completed a clear round, but the British Laura Renwick riding Oz de Breve overcame him by a few tenths of a second. Grégory Wathelet on Desteney for Belgium and Shane Breen on Balloon Barrage for Ireland committed a single fault each and that resulted in the third and the fourth places for their teams. France and Italy came fifth with 12 points each, and the last year's winner Netherlands descended to the seventh place.
The competition was reduced to a single round because of the weather conditions. The water obstacle was removed and the triple fence was replaced by a double due to the weather as well.
Although the German team was enlisted with Barcelona-qualifying points, Otto Becker's team decided to withdraw. According to FEI regulations this decision leads to a disqualification from the final since a team has to participate in all rounds in order to be eligible for the final. However Germany remains in Division 1 because of the division's capacity increase from 8 to 10 teams in 2014.
Switzerland is currently holding the lead ahead of France and Ireland in the current standings for Barcelona finals.
