Rolex FEI World Cup Final
The World Cup goes to the USA. After Rich Fellers’s victory last year in s’Hertogenbosch, it was Bezzie Madden who won Rolex FEI World Cup Final for the first time on Sunday, April 28 in Göteborg. It was a tough Swiss-US competition with Steve Guerdat in the jump-off, like the one last year. Bezzie Madden has also secured the first place in Thursday’s speed class.
Tough Competition
The Olympic Champion made a perfect first leg riding Nino, literally flying over the obstacles. Nevertheless, the parcours was quite difficult, and no one was to perform a clear round. Steve was trapped by the last fence having entered a little bit stronger on an oxer in the beginning.
Steve performed a clear second leg, while Bezzie Madden, McLain Ward and Kevin Staut scored 4 points. By that time Steve Guerdat and Bezzie Madden had 9 points each, and a jump-off secured Bezzie Madden’s victory. It was the fifth jump-off in the World Cup’s history.
Steve Guerdat was the first to start, however he took risk and received two faults. “Last year I didn’t take risk, and this year it’s been a lot of it. I had to do this however because Beezie and Simon are blazing fast” – said Steve, quite disappointed of his result, “even more than last year in den Bosch” he says. “Only the victory would have been satisfactory”.
