Thanks to the silver medal won by rider Steve Guerdat at the Paris Olympics this summer with Dynamix de Bélhème, he has been nominated for the title of "Sportsman of the Year." During the live broadcast on SRG channels on January 5, 2025, starting at 8:05 PM, he will rely on the viewers' votes to compete against the five other finalists. Be sure to cast your vote for Steve Guerdat at the Sports Awards!
Since his Olympic victory in 2012, Steve Guerdat has been part of the exclusive circle of the world’s best show jumpers. Twelve years after his triumph in London, the 42-year-old from the Jura region once again aimed for medals at the Paris Olympics this summer. He won the silver medal, completing his Olympic collection (after bronze in 2008 with the team). European Champion in 2023 and currently ranked number 2 in the world, he is a master at delivering his best performances when it matters most. His numerous victories and podium finishes this year in 5* competitions reflect his exceptional level.
Thanks to this well-deserved nomination by the selection committee (see box), Steve Guerdat is now just one step away from the title of "Sportsman of the Year 2024." He faces prestigious names such as Marco Odermatt (alpine skiing), Noè Ponti (swimming), Roman Mityukov (swimming), Simon Ehammer (athletics), and Dominic Lobalu (athletics).
The Sportsman and Sportswoman of the Year, as well as the winners in other categories of the "Sports Awards," such as "MVP," "Team," "Paralympic Athlete," and "Coach," will be honored during the live broadcast on Sunday, January 5, 2025, starting at 8:05 PM on SRF 1, RTS 2, and RSI LA 2. During the gala evening, hosted by Fabienne Gyr and Rainer Maria Salzgeber, the best young Swiss talent will also be awarded the "SRF 3 Best Talent Sport" title. How the Voting for Sportsman of the Year Works:
The selection committee, composed of Swiss Olympic, the Swiss Olympic Athletes Commission, Sportpress.ch, and SRG, initially selected 15 candidates for each category. All the pre-selected athletes have achieved exceptional performances during the period from November 1, 2023, to October 31, 2024. To determine the 6 finalists who will be presented during the live broadcast, elite athletes from Swiss Olympic, as well as Swiss sports media and Sportpress.ch, cast their votes. The final result is made up of one-third of the votes from the media, one-third from the votes of elite athletes, and one-third from the results of the public televote.
